Introduction

Well first off I must say that if you have not seen or heard of Akira before now then do not call yourself a true anime fan or otaku for it has been talked about for many many years. So idulge yourself if you have yet to see or hear of Akira by reading my hardcore anime review!

Story 10/10

The story, while looked from afar, can be defined as a typical one. A boy lives through a vicous childhood life and with anger and hatred building up and intensifying, he unleashes it on the society that has betrayed him. But when one looks even closer it is just simply delicious and unique. I have a theory that the more I pay attension to a story the better it really is, I often become bored and space out during typical storylines (no kidding I really do). However, since this anime is as unique as it is it had my undivided attension throughout the two glorious hours.

Okay enough yack right? What makes this anime all that unique? Well first off I must state that there are a multitude of themes crammed into this two hour movie. Power corrupts, money and greed often yeild death, theories and postulations on how the universe even began, it seems that each time I watch I find another theme or hidden meaning. What also makes this story unique is the sheer surprise. Many things happened just left my jaw practically drop onto the floor (and the friends I show it to saying 'Holy SH--!'). Overall the storyline is perfect, there are some parts where people may claim it gets 'slow' (and yes there are many times where the action is slow... though it is evenly spaced throughout the movie), but there is not a single scene that might seem like a 'filler' and I would not take out or change any scene in this movie. It is about as perfect as perfection can get.

Style 9.5/10
Akira has one of the most splendid styles of any anime to date, and it was made about 15 years ago! One of the easiest ways to indentify an anime of true style is to simply look at a screen cap taken and if one can easly identify that it is that anime then it has some great style. But that is not the only important factor. What also matters is whether it is really good or not (for easily identifiable animes are not always good... *cough* DBZ *cough*... just kidding :) :) ). And it is undoubtedly a wonderful style. The storyline, characters, animation, and graphical style all blend together to create something that cannot be mimmicked.
Audio- Sound Effects + Music 10/10
Perfect, I love the music so much that I am thinking of stopping my review right now, going to www.animenmore.com and simply buying it right now! The music fits perfectly for any situation that occurs throughout the movie and just sounds excellent. The sound effects are also top-notch with A+ voice acting (try to find Vash's voice from Trigun and Faye's voice from Cowboy Bebop :) ), and suberb explosion sounds, motorcycle noises and other misc jargon. Overall simply a blast and a joy to listen to.
Visuals- Animation, Graphics 10/10
Personally I love both the animation and the graphics they are stunningly marvelous! I am one that loves both animation and graphics, and usually I can easily spot where companies cut frames or reduced quality to save a buck or two here and there. I saw no such nonsense in this movie! The sheer look of this movie is jaw-dropping and it is strange to know how long ago it was made. When I saw a few other old animes they were not near as good looking, and what is even better is that Akira has that 'old-school' anime style with beautiful graphics and animation that seems nearly impossible to top.
Misc 9.5
Only in Akira have I seen a teddy bear, stuffed rabit, and toy car get up on a patient's bed and start prancing around. Then later having them morph into a giagantic bear with milk spewing from it's eyes... sounds f---ed up no? Well yes indeed it was, but how cool it was too! This anime has this strange sick sadism to it that makes your heart beat from the insanity of it all! And then after you've seen it you're just like WHOOOAAAAA!
Overall 9.8
The highest rank yet to grace the tables of Project BAG! This anime is splendid in all forms of story, breathtaking visuals, heart-stopping audio, and a unique style nearly unmatched by any other anime in the world. Many might say that this is one sick movie, well yes but then again that goes likewise for many animes (ghost in the shell, ninja scrolls), but it is not the sadism that makes it so splendid as the mix of everything done right and nothing done wrong that makes this anime a treasure to hold to your heart. All I must say is that regardless of how much of an anime fan you are you must see this movie, rent it, borrow it, or as I recommend BUY IT because an anime like this only comes along once in a decade. Though beware, if you ARE to watch this anime be sure not to judge until after the second time... I don't know what it is but the second time is much more satisfying than the first, I guess its just one of THOSE animes :).
