Bastard!! Review
Storyline Style
At first, the storyline seems rather bland and simply an excuse for the humor to the show. But the show gets much more interesting after the first two episodes. The first two episodes, I have noticed, is mostly just asking to yourself, “Is Dark Schneider a good guy or bad guy?” Fortunately, this only lasted for me in the first two episodes. After that you realize where Dark Schneider lies and what he is as a person. But the show makes only small references to his past, which keeps you guessing and leaves the show open for a continuing story. There is also an interesting triad of love between Dark Schneider, Arshes Nei, and Yoko. Both Yoko and Arshes Nei loves Dark Schneider, and its interesting to see which one Dark Schneider chooses. Overall the storyline is very good, the characters are dynamic and the plot keeps your interest.
Overall Rating: 8/10
For starters, if you are a fan of the ‘uncut’ anime, then you should appreciate Bastard!! Basically, lots of blood, a few shots here and there of various girls with a severe lack of clothing on, and a whole lot of merciless violence! Also, this anime takes on the particular style of anime where it is hilarious at one point and serious at the next. The show clearly focuses on it’s hilarity, but there are also points in the show, generally in the beginning and ending of each episode, that has some sincerity to it. Mix all of that together with Dark Schneider, one of the most badass-looking anime characters I have seen, and you’ve got yourself one slick show!

Audio Visual

Certainly one of the charms of this show, especially in the voice acting. The voice acting of Dark Schneider is just brilliant, and it really adds to the comical factor of the show. Arshes Nei, Yoko, Gara and pretty much everyone else all have great actors. Actually, if I am not mistaken, the same voice actor from Cowboy Bebop (Spike’s voice) plays the roll as Gara and I think the same voice actor from Love Hina (Sue’s voice) played Yoko. So needless to say the voice acting is certainly excellent and deserves some praise. The sound effects as
well certainly add to the show. Gigantic explosions and the echos added to the warlocks as they cast their spells especially add to the action factor. My only complaint is the music, which seems to be rather lacking. I have seen all six episodes of Bastard!! and I really have
nothing to say about it. Either there really wasn’t much music or there wasn’t any good music because I really have nothing to say about it. All and all though, with great voice acting and sound effects I give it 9/10.
Overall Rating: 9/10

As a norm, the visuals are okay. Not too impressive, but certainly not something to gawk at and make fun of. The animation is all right, and the character designs are very good. I love the look of Dark Schneider he looks like a badass warlock… which he is! So they really did a good job on that! Anywayz, where the visuals really shine is in the action sequences. When the eyes start glowing and the auras start pumping you just can’t wait to see Dark Schneider perform one of his kick ass spells. Overall, 8/10

Misc Overall & Personal Satisfaction:
This portion of the misc section belongs to the humor of Bastard!! This is because the humor will probably be the real reason to watch the show. Most of the humor actually comes from Dark Schneider and his dialogue. “You drew blood you blundering idiot! Now come down
here so I can destroy you. On second thought, stay up there, the hydra is less ugly!” That’s one of my faves and it takes place in the first episode. However, as it seems with most anime like this, the show seems to lose it’s comedic factor and turn towards more of a serious
attitude. Not bad persay, but the comedy is more enjoyable to me than the serious side of Schneider. Ah well, great comedy when it is there and certainly one of the strongest points of the show. 9/10

Overall, this show ties in together quite well. The comedy hooks you in at the start, which helps keep you hooked for the serious sides of the story. As for the serious side of Bastard!! It keeps your attention with vague references to Dark Schneider’s past, interesting villains as well as allies, and the love that both Arshes Nei and Yoko share for Dark Schneider. Overall: 8.375

This show is just plain excellent. A story of love, war, comedy, and drama all in one throw… one six episode long throw! To me, the true light of this show belongs to the comedy factor. This show just has me laughing every time I watch it. And also, I am somewhat partial to fantasy anime, and Bastard!! is highly fantasy-driven. I just love some of the spells that Schneider casts such as “Mega Death,” as well. A very charming and delightful show to
watch, in the end, and it is already one of my all time favorites. Even though it is a mere 6 episodes. 9/10
