Keitaro Urashima's parents get fed up with him and his dream to get into Tokyo U, (who wouldn't with his test scores?), so they force him to get a part time job to help pay. But then, Keitaro recieves a phone call from his Grandmother who tells him to come to her Hinata Apartments right away. Will Keitaro be able to hoax is grandmother into getting him a part time job?

Sweet, innocent, and unbelievably shy, Shinobu begs her divorcing parents to let her stay at the Hinata Apartments. Even though she was always getting picked on at school, and she hasn't made too many friends there, she wants to keep her head up high and try her best. But, will her parents approve of her staying all by her lonesome in such a strange residence?

Motoko Aoyama has always forced herself to live by honor, fight with justice, and spend every waking moment training to increase her powerful skills with the sword. All of this has left her very little time to think about boys, love, or anything that normal girls tend to think about. When she finds out Keitaro is the new manager she becomes ill, but is it a physical illness? Or is Motoko simply lovestruck?
Keitaro made a promise to a young girl 15 years ago that he would get into Tokyo U and they would both live happily ever after together. Now is yet another day that Keitaro must take a test to prove he is worthy of being a Tokyo University student. Will Keitaro be able to pass his next exam? And wooh, whos diary is this? Who made what promise?

Keitaro makes his way to the Hinata Apartments after recieving a phone call from his grandmother. After he gets there, and can't seem to find his grandmother for the life of him, he decides to take a bath in the hot springs. What he doesn't know is that the Hinata Apartments has turned into an all-girls dorm! Quickly, the girls of the Hinata notice this 'panty thief,' and try to escort him out of Hinata... that is until they realize that he has become the new apartment manager!
When Keitaro accidentally drew a picture of Shinobu, he was so embaressed that he left his sketchbook. Shinobu picked it up and promised herself that she would return it... the only problem being that she is too shy to do it! Also, she has to deal with her parents breaking up and getting a divorce, something very difficult to deal with. So Shinobu gathers the courage and delivers Keitaro's sketchbook and finds out that they planned a surprise 'going away' party for her! After the party her parents try to take her away, but Shinobu convinces them that it would be better if she stays.
Motoko comes back from her adventure and is greeted by Keitaro... well, Keitaro accidentally sees her half-naked while she is doing her laundry. Motoko, as enraged as ever, storms after Keitaro and tries to teach the pervert a lesson. That is, until the Hinata girls inform her that he is the new apartment manager! Motoko does not accept this transaction and challenges Keitaro to a duel. Normally defeating such a weakling is no problem, but Motoko feints every time she comes close to Keitaro. At first she almost believes she is in love with him, atleast until she realizes that it was just a cold.
Right away the Hinata girls discover that Keitaro is not actually a Tokyo U student, so they tell him that he must pass his next exam to keep the managerial position at the apartments. Keitaro, with little choice, agrees, and in-between his studies and Hinata caretaking he accidentally knocks off Naru's diary and whoops, he reads some of it too. From the looks of it, it turns out that Naru was the one he made his promise to! But unfortunatly, Keitaro did not think he did too well on his exam so he decided to split. He finds out later, though, that he really did pass. But is Naru really his long lost love? Keitaro really seems to think so...

The very first episode of any show is important. The writer(s) must establish the basic story, the main characters, and keep it fun all in one! Well, simply put they did a good job. To start off the show you get to see Keitaro Urashima with his low self esteem, low test scores, and practically everything else low. You also get to meet all of the unique Hinata girls, and a whole lot of humorously perverse/slapstick comedy, all in one episode! I also loved the quick, confusing start, to Naru and Keitaro's relationship. A great episode, and a wonderful start to any series. The only prob is that there is a little too much slapstick humor in the first ep, which might give the first impression that the show is shallow and stupid. Other than that, an excellent episode. 8.5/10
This episode is a first peek at the heartwarming and lovely character Shinobu. This being my favorite character, everyone can be sure that I will judge this episode accordingly. First, I must say that it is warming to see the first signs of how Shinobu feels about Keitaro. Next, I would like to state that this episode is very well organized and the overall flow moves like a stream of water, quite excellent! Lastly, I would like to say that Shinobu has a great way of gettin' ya right here (points to heart). But seriously, the girl is overwhelmingly shy, has a low self esteem, and is upset because her parents are getting a divorce. Quite a few things that many people her age could probably relate to. Also, the use of symbolizm in the arrows is very creative. Thumbs up for originality! Great episode! 9.5/10
Similar to the previous episode, this one is your first real look into Motoko. Early on into the show you get to see her violent, rough side, but also her soft, weak side. I loved watching Motoko constantly chace Keitaro for being a pervert, and I loved their duel as well. The whole episode is mostly humor-based, but is done quite well. My last point I would like to make is that I thought it was creative how the creators of the show made you think one thing about Motoko when it was really a much simpler answer. Overall a good episode, and particularly worth it for the comedy factor. 8.0/10
Right away this show has ya laughin' when the Hinata girls discover that Keitaro is not really a Tokyo U student. But later the episode becomes a little more serious when Keitaro thinks that he failed his exam. He gets all depressed and decides that it is just best if he leaves the Hinata without telling anyone. And so he tries to sneak in and steal all of his important belongings. And the hilarity ensues when the Hinata girls see him and thinks he is a burgler. Later, Naru finds Keitaro sulking at Tokyo U, looking at what he can't get. But, instead of yelling at him for looking at her diary, she socks him one! Then she tells him that she forgives him, and she tells him a few things to keep his spirits up, aww how sweet Naru! Overall, a sweet, funny, sad, and heartwarming episode all in one! Very good! 9.0/10
